Anja Jenny (b. 1986, Fribourg Switzerland) graduated from Istituto Marangoni Paris in 2014, with honors. Her work focuses on a range of mediums including oil painting, ai, wearable art, sculpture and performance.
¶
The very essence of my artistic practice lies in a quest for freedom and emancipation. I remember being six years old, painting alongside my grandfather in his studio—a space akin to a cabinet of curiosities—where wonder mingled with a search for my own voice. Even then, I sought to free myself from his gestures in order to find my own. This traditional medium intimidated me, and I rejected it with all my strength, only to reclaim it much later (in 2021). I gave myself permission to paint with oil.
¶
My practice is a culmination of all the mediums I’ve explored over the past 20 years. My work spans oil painting, artificial intelligence, performance, and wearable art. I develop a universe where performance becomes animated sculpture, placing myself as the subject of my work. In my paintings, I arrange drawn from photographic archives & personal staging—to create distortions where composition offers new meaning.
¶
With humor and a touch of irreverence, my practice examines the challenges of contemporary representation.
